The key masterpieces from fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent's art collection—including creations by artists such as Cézanne, Picasso, Mondrian, and Matisse—were put on display at the Grand Palais in Paris, presented ahead of an event described by auctioneers as the "art sale of the century." Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé had assembled this collection together prior to the designer's passing in June 2008. Adorning the couple's apartments in Paris, Chateau Gabriel in Normandy, and their residences in Morocco, the items include antiquities, Old Master and 19th-century paintings and drawings, Art Deco pieces, along with European furniture and decorative art. Pierre Bergé has now resolved to sell the entire collection. Marking the conclusion of an era, the upcoming sale has already generated immense attention and speculation. This volume presents the collection in situ within the couple's homes for the very first time. While certain pieces had previously been photographed on an individual basis, none had ever been documented together, turning this meticulously produced book into the definitive record of one of the 20th century's grand collections.
